Through The Years.....
Throughout its history, the Club has been blessed with inspired leadership. Able Presidents have been supported by dedicated officers and committee chairmen. All have built upon experiences of those who went before.
Through most of the years, membership included only men. However, beginning in 1987, in accordance with new Rotary International policy, this was changed. Today women comprise 15% of the membership. They, like men, are key leaders in their businesses and they play a major role in the Club activities.
The ideal of service underlines all that is Rotary. It is expressed by the motto "Service Above Self." From its inception, the Bridgeport Club has pursued this in four separate areas as defined by Rotary International. These involve service to the Community, to Vocations, to the International Scene and to the Club.
Emphasis on the four areas of service must not obscure the fact that Bridgeport Rotarians have at the same time reached beyond the Club into the larger world of our Rotary District, through the years designated as 30, 798 and now 7980.
Those involved in all of this have gathered at lunch every Tuesday since 1919 ....in the old Breakfast Room of the Stratfield Hotel, the First Hungarian Church, the Holiday Inn, the Three Door Restaurant, United Congregational Church and the Bridgeport Hilton now called Holiday Inn. These are friends who have gathered with a common purpose and in the process made important decisions affecting the community.
